Drinking Tap-water is better than Bottled Water Bottled water is simply water from some sources that a company has placed in a bottle for resale. It can have minimal processing – as in natural spring or mineral water, or it can be completely filtered and dematerialized which is to remove minerals in the water to nearly pure, and then added minerals back into the water to make it taste better. In these days, â€Å"we drink 15 times more bottled water today than we did in 1976. According to the NRDC (National Resources Defense Council), â€Å"more than half of all Americans drink bottled water, and there are more than one-third of the population drinks it regularly†. And we pay big bucks for it, too – over $15 billion a year† (Buddha, pg1-2). The†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, high quality home water treatment methods usually can produce better quality water than bottled water. So there is no need to buy bottled water since the tap water is cleaner and safer than bottled water on some occa sions. Furthermore, this method is cheaper than bottled water. On the other hand, the biggest disadvantage of bottled water is that it is not good for the earth which is the environment. According to pacific Institute’s fact: Manufacturing the 30+ billion plastic water bottles we bought in 2006: †¢ Required the equivalent of more than 17 million barrels of oil – enough to fuel more than one million vehicles for a year. †¢ Produced more than 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide. †¢ Used three times than amount of water in the bottle. And these numbers do not include transporting the bottles. Nearly 25% of bottled water crosses national borders before reaching consumers. Adding in transportation, the energy used comes to over 50 million barrels of oil equivalent –enough to run 3 million cars for a year (Buddha, pg 2).
